Essential Phone PH-1 Smartphone

Design and Display

Anyone who sees the Essential Phone will agree at once that this is a premium device. It has a body made of ceramic and titanium. Essential Phone also flaunts a svelte profile at only 7.8 mm. But, rather sadly, the Essential phone seems not to be water resistant.

There are magnetic pins on the rear, key parts of a modular system. These enable you snap on add-ons for improved capabilities. The 5.7-inch display wraps around the selfie camera, leaving negligible bezels. It has a resolution of 1312 x 2560 pixels. There is Corning Gorilla Glass 5 atop the display.

Camera

The Essential Phone PH-1 offers you dual rear cameras, each of which has a resolution of 13 megapixels. As usual, one of these shoots in colour while the other takes shots in black and white. This setup further enhances low-light images.

The 8 megapixel front camera is set in a position many selfie addicts will like – at the centre. Like the main shooter, this one records 4K videos. There is also a 360-degree camera available as a modular accessory to improve your shot-taking ability.

Hardware and Software

On paper, the Essential Phone is built for flagship level performance. It carries an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor that you will find on popular high-end rivals. This runs at speeds up to 2.4 GHz. Its supporting cast are an Adreno 540 GPU and 4 GB of RAM.

Onboard storage is highly generous at 128 GB. It is not known if you will be able to expand this. The Essential Phone ships with Android 7.1.1 (Nougat) and you get updates for two years.

Other Features

A 3040mAh non-removable battery supplies power to the Essential Phone PH-1. This supports fast charging. You can also use the reversible USB Type-C port at the base for topping up. The device has a fingerprint scanner on the rear. It supports 4G LTE networks. Connectivity options also include NFC, Bluetooth 5.0 and Wi-Fi with MIMO.

Pricing and Availability

Essential Phone PH-1 is now available in the United States starting at $746. The Essential Phone is not yet available in Nigeria. Essential Phone price in Nigeria should start at around 280,000 Naira if and when it arrives in the country.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8

Design and Display

From its looks, you don’t have to tell this is one premium device. The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 features a design language comparable to that of the Galaxy S8 Plus. It has curved glass both on the front and rear. At 195 grams, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has to be the bulkiest Note to date. It is both water and dust resistant.

A humongous 6.3-inch Super AMOLED display offers ample space for content viewing. Images should be super sharp with Quad HD resolution of 1440 x 2960 pixels and roughly 521 ppi pixel density. Samsung Galaxy Note 8 also supports an S-Pen that you can use to draw and translate.

Camera and Storage

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 looks to be a photography enthusiast’s favourite. You will notice a dual 12MP setup on the rear. This completes with dual LED, dual tone flash, phase detection autofocus, optical image stabilisation (OIS), and 2X optical zoom. It shoots high quality 4K videos.

You also get an equally robust 8MP front facing shooter with f/1.7 aperture, Auto HDR and autofocus for selfies. This shoots 2K videos at 30 fps.

Hardware and Other Features

It is normal to expect nothing less than the best of performance from a device in this range. And you are going to get that with a flagship class Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset running at up to 2.35 GHz on offer. But it appears the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will come with an in-house Exynos 8895 octa-core processor in some markets.

The phablet offers generous 6 GB of RAM. It comes in 64GB, 128GB and whopping 256GB storage variants. Interestingly, you will still be able to expand storage. There is also talk about a model that offers 4GB RAM. Samsung Galaxy Note 8 boots latest Android 7.1.1 (Nougat) operating system.

In addition to a rear mounted fingerprint scanner, you also have an iris scanner for unlocking the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. It offers a reversible USB Type-C port. A 3,300mAh battery with fast charging support provides juice.

Pricing and Availability

Preorder for Samsung Galaxy Note 8 began August 23 in the United States and other select markets. The Android phablet will start selling globally on September 15 starting with countries like the United States, Australia, and United Kingdom starting at a price of around $930.

The premium smartphone is not available Nigeria, Ghana, and Kenya. When available, you can buy the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 at leading online stores in the countries. Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Price in Nigeria is expected at 350,000 Naira to 450,000 Naira depending on your location in Nigeria.

Tecno Spark Plus Key Specs & Features

  • 1.5GHz octa-core CPU with 2GB RAM
  • Android 7.0 (Nougat)

  • Front and Rear Flash
  • Fingerprint Sensor (Rear)
  • 3400 mAh Battery

Tecno Spark Plus K9 Smartphone

Design and Display

With its metallic body, the Tecno Spark Plus is one cool smartphone. It looks a lot like the regular variant, but bigger. The profile is a little slimmer at about 7.75 millimetres. You will be able to get it in champagne gold, anthracite grey, elegant blue or scarlet red.

If somehow a 5.5-inch display isn’t big enough, the 6.0-inch unit on offer here should be more satisfactory. It’s just a tad disappointing that this IPS screen also comes with HD resolution. This means the Tecno Spark will offer sharper images.

Camera and Storage

The plus-size Tecno Spark Plus doesn’t differ from its smaller sibling here. There is a 13 megapixel rear camera with autofocus, face detection and HDR features. The 5 megapixel selfie snapper also features LED flash to brighten your shots.

Inbuilt storage of 16 GB is not bad at all. You can also extend this by another 32 GB using a microSD card.

Performance and OS

The Tecno Spark Plus also comes with an octa-core MediaTek processor. But the one used here is slightly faster than that of the Spark, running at speeds up to 1.5 GHz. Performance also gets a boost with an improved 2 GB of RAM. The phone boots Android 7.0 Nougat operating system with Tecno’s HiOS 2.0 skin laid over it.

Other Specs and Features

The phablet carries a bigger 3,400mAh battery, a choice one can understand given the extras it brings along. What you may not be happy about a bit is that there is no support for fast charging. A rear mounted fingerprint scanner gives extra layer of security to your data.

The Tecno Spark Plus offers dual SIM dual standby feature. There is support for speedy 4G LTE connectivity. You also get the regulars, such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, for wireless connectivity.

Pricing and Availability

Tecno Spark Plus is now available in Nigeria, Ghana, and Kenya. You can buy the Android phone at leading online stores in the countries. Tecno Spark Plus price in Nigeria ranges from 37,500 Naira to 50,000 Naira.

Infinix Hot 5 Lite Specs and Price

It is easy to tell that the Infinix Hot 5 Lite is the stripped down version of the affordable Hot 5, as indicated by the ‘Lite’ moniker. Infinix Hot 5 Lite shares most of the features of its sibling, but loses the fingerprint scanner and comes with lower RAM.

Where to Buy Infinix Hot 5 Lite

Jumia Nigeria – See Offers | Jumia Kenya – See Offers | Jumia Ghana – See Offers

Infinix Hot 5 Lite Key Specs & Features

  • 5.5-inch Touch Display, 720 x 1280 pixels (267ppi)
  • 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6580 CPU with 1GB RAM
  • Android 7.0 (Nougat), XOS 2.2
  • 16GB Storage with support for memory card up to 32GB
  • 8MP Rear Camera and 5MP Front Camera
  • 3G and Wi-Fi
  • 4000 mAh Battery with Fast Charging

Infinix Hot 5 Lite Smartphone

Design and Display

One may not be wrong stating there is nothing extraordinary about the looks of the Infinix Hot 5 Lite. It’s just there, sort of. But a textured rear looks good and should make the device less slippery.

There is still the 5.5-inch display on the front. This is increasingly becoming the norm these days. It offers a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. You may expect decent wide angle viewing here since the Infinix Hot 5 Lite uses an IPS panel.

Camera and Storage

Nothing changes from the Infinix Hot 5 in the camera department. There is an 8 megapixel shooter on the rear and a 5 megapixel snapper on the front. Both promise to serve decent quality, especially with their support for LED flash.

As with its sibling, the Infinix Hot 5 Lite comes with 16GB onboard storage. You can also extend storage with a microSD card.

Performance and OS

Under the hood, the Infinix Hot 5 Lite carries a MediaTek quad-core processor as the Hot 5. The difference in terms of performance will have to do with RAM. The Hot 5 Lite offers just 1 GB, compared to the other’s 2 GB. It runs off Infinix’s own XOS 2.2, a customised version of Android 7.0 Nougat.

Other Specs and Features

You get a high capacity 4,000mAh battery that promises to get things running for many hours on a single charge. This beast is said to offer up to 35 hours of talk time! Plus, there is fast charge technology that gives you hours of talk time in just 5 minutes of charging.

But the fingerprint scanner on the rear of the Hot 5 is missing here. And like the other device, the Infinix Hot 5 Lite does not support 4G LTE. It offers 3G support and other regular wireless connectivity options, such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

Pricing and Availability

Infinix Hot 5 Lite is now available in Nigeria, Kenya, and Ghana. You can buy the smartphone at leading online stores in the countries. Infinix Hot 5 Lite Price in Nigeria ranges between 32,800 Naira and 50,000 Naira, depending on your location in the country.

The Infinix Hot 5 Lite price in Kenya starts at KSh 6,999 while the price in Ghana starts at 399 GH₵.
