Alcatel has now launched its latest smartphone offering in India, in the form of the Idol 4. Initially announced alongside the Alcatel Idol 4S at the MWC 2016, the smartphone duo caught the eyes of consumers worldwide thanks to the premium design and respectable processing power. So much so, that even BlackBerry opted to rebrand the Alcatel Idol 4 and announce it globally as the DTEK 50.
The Alcatel Idol 4 is the cheaper and less powerful of the duo. It comes with a premium glossy black exteriors which apparently is made out of two sheets of glass – one on the back and the other on the front. There’s metal to the side as well as the front. Upfront, the Alcatel Idol 4 packs a 5.2 inch Full HD (1920x1080p) IPS LTPS display with the company’ own Parallax UI on top. The display is flanked on the top and bottom by two speaker grilles which offer a total audio output of 7.2 Watts and come with Waves MaxxAudio technology. This, in fact, is one of the key selling points of this mid-range device from Alcatel. To further enhance the audio experience of Idol 4, Alcatel will be bundling in JBL earphones within the box pack of the device.
Under the hood, the Alcatel Idol 4 packs the age old Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 octa-core processor with Adreno 405 GPU. This is clubbed with 3GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Alcatel has also provided room for memory expansion of up to 512GB via MicroSD card slot. That said, it doesn’t come with a dedicated memory slot as the phone features a Hybrid SIM slot (nano + nano/MicroSD). Talking of the cameras, the Alcatel Idol 4 features a 13MP f/2.0 rear shooter with EIS, PDAF and dual tone dual LED Flash. There’s also an 8MP front facing camera accompanying the rear unit which too comes with a LED flash upfront. Alcatel Idol 4 comes with a unique circular BoomKey to the side of the smartphone which lets you control camera, music, gallery and much more. For example, simply press and hold the BoomKey during shooting stills and the camera would go into Burst Mode or you can live broadcast a video by pressing the key while recording the footage.
The Alcatel Idol 4 comes with a 2610mAh battery which comes with Quick Charge 2.0 support. The inclusion of a comparatively smaller battery has Alcatel make their phone decisive slim at just 7.1mm. The mid-range smartphone runs on Android Marshmallow and comes in Gold, Metal Silver and Dark Grey colors. The Alcatel Idol 4 will go on sale exclusively via Flipkart starting 2PM today, at Rs 16,999. Apart from the JBL earphones, Alcatel will also be including a VR headset along with the package of the Idol 4.
