Gionee M2017 has now been officially announced in China. It looks exactly same as the smartphone that got leaked via renders a few months back. The highlight of the Gionee M2017 is the humongous 7,000mAh battery on the inside, which apparently is achieved by a combination of two 3,500mAh batteries.
Externally, the Gionee M2017 succeeds to stand out from the crowd thanks to its metal unibody construction and dual edged display. Furthermore, the back of the smartphone is clad in a premium leather finish. Apart from that, the Gionee M2017 misses out on the headphone jack, thereby falling in line with the current trend of the smartphone industry. Up front, the latest smartphone from Gionee’s battery centric ‘M’ series sports a 5.7-inch dual edged Quad HD AMOLED display. Incidentally, this display comes with a markedly harder Sapphire Glass for protection instead of the standard Gorilla Glass. Gionee claims that they have made use of a low power consumption display which when paired with the smartphone’s 7,000mAH battery delivers up to 25 hours of continuous video playback.
Under the hood, the Gionee M2017 packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 octa-core processor with Adreno 510 GPU. This is mated with 6GB RAM and a 128GB or 256GB of internal storage. Besides, there’s no room for memory expansion due to the lack of MicroSD card slot. Now coming to the optics department, the Gionee M2017 features a dual rear camera setup. This is made out of a combination of 12MP and 13MP camera sensors and LED flash. It’s worth mentioning that this rear camera of the smartphone offers 2X optical zoom. To complement the rear shooter, there’s an 8MP front-facing selfie snapper located on the front of the smartphone.
As for security, the Gionee M2017 features a fingerprint sensor that’s embedded in the home button located to the front of the smartphone. This is flanked by two touch sensitive capacitive buttons. The battery inside the Gionee M2017 comes with support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. Connectivity wise the leather clad smartphone comes with a USB Type-C port and features support for 4G LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and USB OTG.
The Gionee M2017 comes in Gold and Black colors and is now available for pre-orders in China. The smartphones come with a hefty price tag, though. The cheapest of the trio is obviously the 128GB storage variant. It is priced at 6,999 (Rs 68,240/$1007 approx.) The exclusive Italian custom alligator leather back version is however priced even higher at 1,699 (Rs 1,65,740/$2446 approx.) This special edition device is apparently the 256GB storage variant of the smartphone.
