Netflix seems to be on a roll, after recently introducing the download feature the popular streaming service has now added a video preview to its TV app. The feature is aimed at enabling better content discovery and will also help people choose the shows without actually streaming them. Netflix doesn’t explicitly call this as trailers but yes, it is very close to it.
This is what Netflix had to say in a blog post. “Video previews aren’t teasers or traditional trailers.” and further added that, “They are specially designed video synopses that help members to make faster and more confident decisions by quickly highlighting the story, character, and tone of a title.”
As of now one had to skim through a lot of content before they could actually decide about their playlist. The very fact that Netflix has a ton of TV Shows/Movies on offerings actually made it a daunting task when it came to selecting the shows, in fact, I tend to watch the trailer on YouTube before starting the stream on Netflix. Also, box covers often fail to render an exact sense of what the movie is about, especially so with the older titles.
The Netflix Preview Videos will be rolled out to most of the gaming consoles and also Roku starting immediately and all the user has to do is hover on the show selection and the trailer starts to play, similar to the videos on your Facebook. Last year Netflix had begun A/B testing the cover picture to see which one of them worked out the best but with they are not doing the same with the videos. Netflix has already generated one video clip for each title on its catalog and going further they might make the feature a bit more intuitive with trailers to choose from.
