Asus refreshed its laptops and PC lineup with the latest Kaby Lake chips from Intel. These are apparently the 7th generation Intel Core i5 and i7 chips which is about 10 times more efficient than the company’s first generation Core processor. With that said, it’s worth noting that the Intel Kaby Lake chips can be best regarded as an incremental update over the last generation Sky Lake models.
The Taiwanese PC maker has now upgraded everything ranging from its Zenbook lineup to the Transformer 2-in-1 Pro with the Kaby Lake chips. Among them, the most noteworthy is the new AsusPro B9440 laptop. Sporting a 14 inch Full HD (1920 x 1080p) display with thin bezels, the laptop is mainly intended for business and enterprise users. Asus claims that their laptop is in fact the ‘lightest business notebook in the world’ with a weight of 1.04 kg. This makes it markedly lighter than the 1.35kg heavy 13-inch Apple Macbook Air!
The latest range of Kaby Lake Core i5 and i7 chips powering the AsusPro B9440 laptop are based on a 14nm design, similar to the ones found in Sky Lake and Broadwell cores. This means, that you shouldn’t expect a sizable leap in terms of performance from these latest chips. Apart from that, the laptop comes with upto 16GB RAM and 512GB of SSD storage. The keyboard of the laptop also comes with a tilted architecture for the ease of typing. The AsusPro B9440 laptop is priced starting at $999 (Rs 67,889 approx.) and will be available for shipping starting May this year.
Another interesting launch by Asus at the CES this year, is their VivoPC X compact desktop. The most intriguing part about the same is its VR support out of the box. One of the main drawbacks of VR is the fact that the headset needs to be in close proximity of a powerful PC, and very often that isn’t possible due to the unwieldy size of traditional desktops. With that said, Asus has developed their VivoPC X in such a way that it can be easily moved around in your house. So you can simply plug it onto a TV or a monitor and start using it. With that said, the smaller dimensions don’t mean that Asus has compromised on the internals of this desktop. On the contrary it packs in modestly powerful internals featuring an Intel Core i5 Kaby Lake processor, Nvidia GTX 1060 graphics card, 8GB RAM and 512GB of SSD based internal storage. Design wise, Asus have drilled air circulation vents to the side of the rectangular housing of the desktop. Besides, they have made use of a special pipe to keep the heat away from the new processor. As for the pricing, the Asus VivoPC X is priced at $799 (Rs 54,320 approx.) and will go on sale starting March.
Apart from these Asus has now upgraded its ZenBook 3 lineup with a new 4K (3840 x 2160p) model. Dubbed the Asus ZenBook UX510, the laptop features a 15.6 inch display which comes coated with Gorilla Glass 4. There’s also a smaller 13.3 inch Full HD (1920 x 1080p) model called the ZenBook UX330. It’s however worth mentioning that while both the ZenBooks feature the latest Kaby Lake processors, the ZenBook UX510 has the better Nvidia graphics. The rest of the specifications of the new ZenBooks are however not known as of yet. With that said, it is expected to come with a Fingerprint Sensor, Harman Kardon speaker system and Windows Hello support just like other Asus ZenBook 3 laptops that were launched late last year. Besides the traditional laptops, Asus has now added a new ZenBook Flip 2-in-1 model to its range and well, that too comes with the latest 7th generation Kaby Lake processor. Now coming to the pricing, the Asus ZenBook UX330, UX310 and UX510 comes marked at $749 (Rs 50, 849 approx.), $699 (Rs 47, 455 approx.) and $999 (Rs 67,381 approx.) respectively. These laptops will be available for sale in US starting today. The Asus ZenBook Flip 2-in-1 on the other hand will be available starting this May at a price of $899.
Asus has even updated its Zen AiO range with the latest range of chips, apart from giving it other necessary specs boost. The Taiwanese maker has launched a total of three all-in-one desktops at the event, namely Zen AiO Pro Z240IE, Zen AiO ZN270IE, Zen AiO ZN241IC with a price tag of $1,799 (Rs 1,22, 348 approx.), $999 (Rs 67,381 approx.)and $999 (Rs 67,381 approx.) respectively. There’s also a new Transformer Pro T304 2-in-1 which comes at a price of $999 (Rs 67,381 approx.).
The last but not the least is the top of the line gaming desktop Asus GT51CH. And oh gosh, it comes with some beefy specifications. Powering the PC is a 7th gen Intel Core i7-7700K processor which can be overclocked to a maximum of 4.8GHz. This is clubbed with a Nvidia GTX 1080 GPU and upto 64GB of 2800MHz DDR4 RAM. Asus however, hasn’t revealed the pricing and the availability dates of the same yet.
