There are plenty of smart LED lights in the market and the Philips Hue is arguably still ruling the roost. That said the premise of Smart LEDs has been pretty much the same all of them use Wi-Fi or some even Bluetooth to communicate either with the hub/bridge or with the companion app on the smartphone. Soraa (a lighting company) has employed a new technology called HomePlug Green Phy and what it does is that it converts your current electrical lining to ethernet just like how it’s done with Wi-Fi repeaters and other devices.
The HomePlug Green Phy works in line with the PEV (Plug-in Electric Vehicle) charging that not only provides for a single-port fast charging for electric vehicles but also establish a communication interface through the charging connector. Green Phy does the same and provides a common communication standard to support all modes of AC and DC charging. Moving on, the Helia Bulb needs to be setup using the companion app and the company claims that the light auto adjusts the colors they emit and eliminate the blue light which is proven to mess with the usual sleep cycles.
Furthermore, Soraa says that the Helia Bulb takes cues from the skylight and is designed to simulate a light that is more violet in color. Overall, it seems that the bulb will take care of your ambiance and comfort level without the need for any inputs. The Helia bulb goes a step further and also includes an optional presence sensor called Smart Snap along with the ambient light sensing technology. The lights will turn on as soon as it detects the precence in the room and lights up accordingly. Also, the ambient light sensor fine tunes itself over the different time of the day so as to appear softer.
Helia does work with Amazon Echo and IFTTT but again for this to happen one needs to purchase the “Cloud Connect” accessory that needs to be hooked to a nearby router. The Helia Bulb in itself will cost $49.95 each and the Smart Snap will set you back by an additional $29.95.
