Qualcomm Jumps the Gun, Reveals Upcoming Tango Enabled Asus ZenFone AR

A new smartphone from Asus was incoming and Asus itself had been teasing the phone for quite a while. Qualcomm, on the other hand, has apparently published the press release today (only to be taken down later) and it is in here that the Asus ZenFone AR was detailed. The device is touted to be the first that supports both Google’s Daydream and Tango and will be sporting a Snapdragon 821 SoC. The first smartphone to come equipped with Google Tango was the PHAB2 Pro but the Snapdragon 652 seems to have not gone well with the users.

Evleaks has also shared renders for the ZenFone AR and the camera bump on the rear is sure to go noticed. Snapdragon 821 on the ZenFone AR is obvious to surpass the Phab2 Pro when it comes to graphics and head tracking by the sensors. This is what Qualcomm had to say about the same “VR with a high-resolution display, ultra-smooth graphics and high-fidelity sensors for precise head tracking.” Long battery life when using AR is guaranteed due to all Tango-related processing being done on a single, highly efficient SoC.”
Asus goes on and assures that all the “future Snapdragon 800 series and 600 series processors will have a few things in common in terms of their leading ability to support tango.” What this means is that all future 600 and 800 series Snapdragon chipsets will support Tango and this in itself can be a great advantage for Qualcomm as opposed to other chipmakers who are yet to incorporate Tango.
The blog post goes on to explain how Tango experience on the Asus ZenFone AR has been improvised and how well the 3D graphic overlays match up with the actual surroundings. Furthermore, the Snapdragon 821 is rated to bring 40% improvement in the graphics department while consuming 40% less power than its predecessors. Qualcomm also mentions that the ZenFone AR will support a bouquet of Google’s VR apps inclusive of Street View, YouTube, Netflix, HBO, Hulu and several others. Asus is expected to reveal the details regarding ZenFone AR in greater depth at their event in CES 2017, stay tuned for the updates.
