Design and Display

Featuring an elegant unibody design, the Tecno i5 has a body made of metal to show ruggedness. It is also a bit on the slim side at about 8 mm. The weight is just perfect at 160 grams. Tecno i5 comes in gold, black or grey finish.

There is ample screen estate for movies and games at 5.5 inches, when measured diagonally. The IPS panel promises decent wide-angle viewing, although screen resolution is 720 x 1280 pixels.

Camera and Storage

The Tecno i5 shows great promise in the camera department. You will find a 13 megapixel sensor on its rear. It offers autofocus and subject tracking features. This pairs with an 8 megapixel front facing sensor. Quality selfies appear on the card, in particular with flash also on the front.

Onboard storage stands at 16 GB, which is decent. You will be able to add up to 128 GB via a dedicated microSD card slot.

Performance and OS

As for processing power, the Tecno i5 packs a quad-core MediaTek 6737T chipset whose speeds top at 1.5 GHz. This gets backing from 2 GB of RAM. The available memory should boost performance beyond what an average budget device can muster. Running the device is Android 7.0 Nougat operating system. This has Tecno’s HiOS 1.1 lying on top of it.

Other Specs and Features

A large capacity 4,000mAh Li-Ion battery supplies juice to get the Tecno i5 going. You may expect this to last a full day, even if you are constantly tapping away on the phone. It doesn’t appear to enjoy backing of a fast charge technology, though.

There is a fingerprint scanner with anti-oil protection and this appears to perform very well. The 4G LTE device supports 4G LTE connectivity on its two SIM slots as well as Voice over LTE (VoLTE). Tecno i5 also supports USB On-the-Go (OTG).

Pricing and availability

The Tecno i5 is targeted at the Indian market and is expected at a price of 11,495 INR in India. Tecno i5 is not yet available in Nigeria, Ghana, and Kenya and it is not likely it even be available in those markets. If and when available, you can buy the affordable smartphone at leading online stores in Nigeria and Kenya. Tecno i5 Price in Nigeria ranges from 65,000 Naira to 95,000 Naira depending on your location in the country. Price in Kenya starts at around KSh 14,499.
