WHO (World Health Organization) has projected that Diabetes will be the 7th leading cause of death by 2030 and there have been instances wherein the proposal to tax sugary drinks was pitched. The global prevalence of diabetes among adults over the age of 18 has been almost doubled to 8.5% in 2014 as opposed to the stars from 1980. That said diabetes is controllable and with micro adjustments and lifestyle optimization, one could learn to live with diabetes.
Diabetes is a chronic disease that occurs either when the body is not able to use the insulin it produces or when the pancreas fails to produce enough insulin. Most of the Doctors advocate the patients keep a record of their food intake along with the units of Insulin taken in every instance. While most of the people with diabetes might be keeping a log of the insulin intake it is only natural for them to forget the same. In such cases, it is quite possible that the person might take double doses of insulin which may lead to Hypoglycemia and other associated life-threatening symptoms.
Insulog is a new snap-on insulin tracker that automatically logs your insulin intake and also keeps a record with the help of the companion app. The tracker comes with a display of its own that shows the dose was taken and the time elapsed since the last dose. Apart from having access to the chronological data on the smartphone app one can also share the same with their medical team and this is something that will also help Doctors prescribe the medicines. The Snap-on can be quickly charged with a micro USB and it is expected to last for several days.
The snap-on is compatible with all major insulin pens including Flexpen (by Novo Nordisk) Kwikpen (by Eli Lilly) and Solostar (Sanofi). The Insulin is accompanied by a user manual, micro USB charger and a BGM to Phone Sync cable. The best part is that it can also sync with Apple or Google Healthkit and one can simply transfer the data from the device and share it with the Doctor. As said earlier the ill effects of Diabetes can be cordoned off by constantly monitoring your Insulin intake and also blood sugar level. Also, the doctors will be able to have a better hindsight during consultations. This little gadget will save you from life-threatening Hypoglycemia and Hyperglycemia situations. Insulog comes fitted with sensors which detect the motion of the pen and sync the data to the companion app via Bluetooth, just like the fitness trackers out there.
The makers of Insulog have promised a July 2017 shipping and the pledge amount starts from $109 and goes up all the way to $599. The companion app is available on both Android and iOS.
